Dear Minister Dreeshen,

I am writing as an Edmonton resident to express my support for the provincial government’s proposed legal changes regarding municipal transportation projects, including bike lanes, multi-use pathways, and roadway redesigns.

In Dunluce, many residents have raised serious concerns about the proposed multi-use pathway project. Our community has felt ignored throughout this process, despite broad local opposition and a petition showing that approximately 90 percent of residents were against the multi-use paths.

Residents are concerned that these projects can remove valuable parking, narrow roads, affect trees, increase congestion, slow traffic, and create unnecessary disruption in established neighbourhoods that already function well. Families, seniors, tradespeople, delivery drivers, and working residents all rely on practical road access and reasonable parking.

That is why I appreciate your government’s willingness to take action. Municipal transportation planning should include meaningful consultation, genuine community input, and proper accountability before major changes are imposed on established neighbourhoods.

I support the province’s efforts to ensure municipalities cannot move forward with projects that lack broad public support and negatively affect local communities. Stronger approval requirements, funding oversight, and clearer accountability would help restore balance and common sense to these decisions.
